Last Contact - Lumens
Last Contact is a fine art series started during the pandemic and has evolved over the years. The images are 8x10 contact lumens of local ‘found’ plants and are exposed over days to months on my front porch in Mississippi. The paper is then scanned and adjusted in photoshop. The printed images are then attached to 8x10 boards and hot wax is applied. These photo encaustic images which are finished with mixed media provides a tactual quality to the final works of art. Last Contact Series was started after reading The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert. The text was haunting and even more so upon reflection of environmental changes that I was observing in my yard. The environment is transforming, and the climate is shifting, yet it seems that humans do not want to be inconvenienced. The Last Contact Series addresses the concern of climate change and human survival.
